Emergency Room
When you need urgent medical care, the hospital emergency room is typically your only option. When you go to an emergency room for care, you are relying on the hospital to provide competent medical doctors and nurses to handle any emergency. When mistakes are made by emergency room health care providers, both those providers and the hospital may be liable. There are many different types of emergency medicine cases. Here are a few examples of the types of emergency room cases we have handled:
- Failure to diagnose respiratory infection in infant, resulting in death
- Misdiagnosis of heart condition as “heartburn” resulting in death of patient from MI (myocardial infarction) after patient was sent home without treatment
- Misdiagnosis of appendicitis as “gastroenteritis” resulting in ruptured appendix and severe infection
- Failure to monitor heart patient in the emergency room, resulting in cardiac arrest
- Improper management of patient with shoulder dislocation, resulting in internal bleeding and death of patient
- Failure to timely triage suicidal patient presenting to the ER, resulting in the patient leaving and committing suicide, after waiting for hours without being helped
- Failure to diagnose bowel perforation, resulting in delayed diagnosis of sepsis
